Custom work of individual dogs, logos and special creations are her forte. This year Pat Helmbold introduced several new designs including: The ‘Purple Puppy,’ ‘Born to be Wild on a motorcycle, ‘A Home is not a Home without a Berner,’ and Rosti pulling a cart. Numerous designs from previous Specialties are available by special order. Each design created by Pat is unique, capturing the personality of the dog and strikingly lifelike. Pat works from photos and drawings from individuals and works with several artists. Although specializing in Bernese Mountain Dogs, she has designs for many other breeds and also has many commercial designs available. Prices of her products range from $ 15 to $ 20 for simpler designs, to several hundred dollars, depending upon the complexity of the design and the medium to be embroidered. Custom work is by quotation, depending on design time and number of stitched in the design. Special orders are always welcome and receive prompt attention. I bought the “Born to be Wild” on a motorcycle shirt for my daughter-in-law this year and it was a big hit with my son and her! To all her customers and friends, Pat says “Thank you.” Be sure to send an email to Pat or give her a call to place your orders. You’ll love her embroidered items.

Berner-Garde always had a lot of people in their room each time I walked by it. During the Health Clinic it was filled with Berners and their people, vets, vet techs, scientists, and volunteers. If ALL of your Berners are not in the Berner-Garde database, you need to add them to it now, and to keep the information current. If you have Berners at the Rainbow Bridge, have you added the date and cause of death to their entries? If not, DO IT NOW. This information is vital to the future of the breed! In order to fund the DNA and Tissue Repository at Michigan State University, Berner-Garde needs to raise money through donations and by the sale of Berner items. Here are some of the items they have available: Hooded sweatshirts in black or pink with embroidered script “Berner-Garde” ($45,) Long sleeve jersey T-shirts in blue or brown with embroidered Berner-Garde logo ($32,) short sleeve red or beige T-shirts with embroidered Berner-Garde logo ($24,) Long sleeve sweatshirt in mustard yellow with embroidered script “Berner-Garde” ($40,) “For the Love of a Berner” pins ($5,) and “For the Love of a Berner” bracelets ($3 each or 2 for $5.) Visit the Berner-Garde website to check the entries of all of your past and present Berners to make sure they are up-to-date: www.bernergarde.org

It’s always nice to visit Fred’s booth – he and Pat are so welcoming and I love to see what new things Fred has each year. He is such a talented vendor! Featured in Fred’s booth was his clever Collapsible Cart with flat free tires, and 2-part shafts for ease of transport. It is available in red oak, priced at $495 and poplar, priced at $465. The cart can be easily shipped, with packing and shipping extra. A separate brace kit is available. The cart was designed to easily fit into smaller cars or vans and leave room for your Berners, too. It is easily assembled without tools, and it is ready to go in just a few minutes after you arrive at your destination! Custom carts can be built as desired. Fred sells the Ikon parade harnesses, in black for $69. A new Swiss style decorated Parade harness is also available at $149 and a duffle bag for storage is included. Fred also has gorgeous Swiss collars in many colors and styles.

Introduced this year is a unique cart (named after his wife’s Berner, Rosti) called Rosti’s Kart Kit. It is a complete, easy to assemble kit with precut poplar wood parts, all hardware, flat free 20 inch wheels and fully adjustable shafts for length and width of your Berner. The height of the cart is adjustable and the axel is stainless steel. Assembly time is less than an hour and the cart can be stained or painted as desired.
